Tag Team Scramble
Spawn & Randy Roko vs. The Buckeyes vs. Beverly Hills
Spawn and Randy Roko are quickly proving themselves to be formidable opponents in the tag team division, and continued this run in a show of strength against The Buckeyes and Beverly Hills Most Wanted this week.
Although pitted against formidable numbers in the form of two tag teams, Spawn and Roko didn't flinch as the bell rang, seeing RRR start in the match with Smooth G and Fitzsimmons, who both charged at The Ripper, attempting to weaken the stronger team early on. Unfortunately for the two, they underestimated the Cruiserweight's abilities, as he slid between them dodging a double clothesline attempt. Leaping back to his feet, Ripper jumped to the second rope, to the turnbuckle, then flattened his opponents with a surprising triangle body press.
Getting up, Ripper was quick to even the numbers, picking up Smooth G and whipping him off the ropes before catching him in a powerful arm drag which sent G sliding out the ring under the bottom rope before running and planting a knee into the back of Fitzsimmons as he recovered on the turnbuckle.
Making the tag, Spawn entered the ring turning his attention to Emcee Kash, and dropping him onto the floor around the ring with a powerful thrusting uppercut, as Triple R kept G immortalized on the outside, running across the ring apron and diving at him with a flying dropkick, which caught one half of BHMW directly in the face, causing him to flip mid air.
Back in the ring, as Emcee Kash attempted to retaliate against Spawn's attack, only to be stopped by the referee, the monster and his new-found partner began to pick apart Fitzsimmons, hoisting him up on Spawns shoulders as Roko mounted the top rope, then leaped from the turnbuckle and hit a super hurricanerana. As Van Wood attempted to help his fallen Fratmate, he too was leveled out by a big boot from Spawn.
With all but Emcee Kash left lying, the monster dubbed 'The Run-away Wrecking Machine' picked up the limp Fitzsimmons, and flattened him with a jackknife powerbomb, making the pin as RRR assaulted Kash with a flying fore-arm smash before he could make his way in to break the count.
Leaving yet another trail of destruction in their wake, RRR and Spawn go into Bad Moon Rising with a lot of momentum. Will the team of Voodoo King and Phade be able to take on this new alliance, or will the team known as 'The Dark Siders' walk away as new EWA tag team champions?
Cage Match
Christopher W. Evans vs. Oli Griffiths
The next match saw Roko's other Bad Moon Rising opponents go head to head In a preview of the match on Sunday. Christopher W. Evans took on former Cruiserweight champion, Oli Griffiths, after Oli surprised both Roko and Evans the week before, announcing a lumberjack ladder match stipulation for the Cruiserweight gold.
After Griffiths explained the reason for his attack on both RRR and CWE, he made it clear why he was - and may very well be again - EWA Cruiserweight Champion. Seemingly catching Evans still recuperating from his attack the week before, Oli was able to showboat through the preview match, using speed and agility to overcome his more submission-based opponent.
Signs of both competitors training for the grueling challenge that lies ahead of them were obvious on Wednesday, as CWE took an early lead, reversing a flying cross-body and grabbing Griffiths mid air, yanking him into a bear hug, which then was swung into a torture rack, only to be counter-reversed into a Crucifix pin which got a 2 count.
Getting back to their feet, Evans challenged Oli to a test of strength. Evans obviously the more powerful of the two, it seemed strange that Griffiths would accept, locking hands with his opponent, but all became clear as he jumped up, gaining leverage to slide under Evans' legs, get up and hit a pele kick as the submission specialist turned.
The match continued back and forth until Evans found himself charging at an exposed turnbuckle as Oli slid out the way of a clothesline attempt, following up by a roundhouse kick to his opponent, leaving him dazed. It was then that Griffiths continued the display of his new arsenal of moves, climbing the opposing turnbuckle on the same side of the ring, and sprinting across the ropes before landing a Sick Kick directly to Evans' head. Then, in an almost continuous movement, Oli threw himself off the turnbuckle, hitting a momentous Shooting Star Press on Evans, covering him for the 3 count.
Although Griffiths may've came out the victor this time round, at Bad Moon Rising not only will he have 2 opponents, but the added task of climbing up a ladder and retrieving the Cruiserweight Championship hanging above the squared circle surrounded by the entire EWA roster, including the likes of the Rebellion and Federation. Tough times are ahead for the former champion.
Inferno Match
Handicap Match
Phade & The Voodoo King vs. Freakazoid
Since setting his sights on the Extreme Championship, Freakazoid's fight to the gold has been a tough one, with general manager Nicolas Griffin putting any possible obstacles in his way. A week before his match at Hellbound, Freak's final task was to overcome one of his more bitter rivals, Voodoo King, and his partner Phade in a handicap Inferno Match.
Although the numbers were firmly against him, Freakazoid was able to put on an impressive show, sending a message to his BMR opponent. Starting in the ring with Phade, they locked up, with Freak coming up with the better hand, powerslamming Phade to the canvas, following up with a series of elbow drops.
Back up, Freakazoid continued his assault, picking Phade up, then dropping her with a sidewalk slam, and a boot to the head to follow as the flames surrounding the ring flickered menacingly.
The momentum of the match quickly turned, however, as Voodoo King attempted to storm the ring, only to be stopped by the referee, allowing Phade to wearily hit Freakazoid with a low blow. With her opponent stunned, Phade was able to lunge back to her corner and make the tag. VDK entered the ring with pain in mind, and pain he delivered.
Grabbing Freak and hoisting him over his shoulders with a back body drop, VDK kept Freak grounded, stamping on his foes' back, then hooking his arms, locking him into a camel clutch, only to be made worse by Phade who - ignoring the ref's orders - hit a low dropkick to Freak's head.
As the match continued, it looked like the numbers game would see Freakazoid's loss, until he surprised Voodoo King, reversing a powerbomb then hitting a verticle standing suplex, dropping his opponent onto the cornerpost, leaving him hanging in a tree-of-woe predicament. As VDK recovered, he was quickly knocked back down again by a flying lariat from the 7ft plus fan favorite, followed by a legdrop. It looked like the end was near, as Freak pulled VDK up to his feet, kneeing him in the stomach and setting him up for a Freaky-Look Powerbomb. As Phade attempted to intervene, she was sent packing over the top rope by Freak, who then planted the VDK with his signature maneuver.
The flames roaring around the ring, Freak continued to push VDK towards the angry fire, and looked like he would win when the lights turned ice-blue, and unknown music began blaring from the speakers, and an equally unknown - but very smartly dressed - man walked onto the stage and stared into the ring. Confused Freakazoid looked up, distracted long enough for Phade to re-enter the ring, steel chair in hand, and slam the metal against her opponent's skull, allowing Voodoo king to take advantage. Grabbing his opponent by the throat, VDK climbed to his feet and - his hand tightly wrapped around a dazed Freak's larynx - dropped him with a thunderous chokeslam onto the flames, igniting Freak's arm, which was quickly doused out by EWA staff around the ring.
Who is this mysterious stranger who caused Freakazoid the loss? And is this going to affect his momentum moving into BMR? Wait and see folks...
3-On-2 Match
Aether & Caspian (The Ancients) vs. Nikki Chalice, Doomsday & Donzig
Each and every week, General Manager Nicolas Griffin has seen fit to put Aether and Caspian of The Federation in matches with the odds against them, until last week with the unexpected return of Marcus o'Connor. Unfortunately in his absence this week, Griff returned to his power-mad ways, forcing the champs into a match with three members of The Rebellion, ahead of their face offs at BMR.
It's safe to say that the start of the match set the tone of the rest of the bout. As the bell rang, both sides collided into a huge brawl, a melee of fists, with Aether charging Nikki, tackling her to the floor and unleashing ravenous claws across the face of the female Rebellion member. Meanwhile, Caspian had his hands full with Doomsday and Donzig.
Running up the turnbuckle, Caspian flipped in a corkscrew moonsault, attempting to take out both heavyweights, only to be caught and slammed in a huge double powerslam. Whilst Doom turned his attention to Aether, grabbing The Little Tornado by her hair, Donzig continued his agressive attack on Caspian, pulling him into a DDT, then [...BLEEP...]ily stomping on the Cruiserweight's face.
Aether in the mean time was trying to fend off the double team from Doomsday and Nikki, to little avail as she was planted with a slingshot which elevated her into a massive boot catching the undefeated Women's Champ directly in the face. With Nikki seemingly out cold, Doom turned his attention back to Caspian, demolishing the Cruiserweight with a crunching clothesline from behind, halting Caspian's attempt at fighting back.
The Rebellion continued their dominant assault throughout the course of the match, with the uneven numbers stopping any sort of fight back from The Ancients. Shockingly, it was Nikki, in full control of Aether, who locked in a face claw, following with a diving neckbreaker slam which she calls the "Bloodbaath", following with her signature moonsault, the "Midnight Murder", and with Caspian immobalised in Donzig's texas cloverleaf, it was Nikki who gained the win for the Rebellion, with the pin count on the woman's champ.
Folks, this is shockingly the first loss of Aether's EWA career, and the first time this reporter has seen the Ancients be manhandled the way they did on Wednesday. One has to wonder the condition they'll be in at EWA Bad Moon Rising on Sunday. But there's only one way to find out folks - Tune in, this Sunday, Bad Moon Rising available on your local pay-per-view!
